1선지자의 생도가 엘리사에게 이르되 보소서 우리가 당신과 함께 거한 곳이 우리에게는 좁으니
BSBNow the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “Please take note that the place where we meet with you is too small for us.
KJVAnd the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2우리가 요단으로 가서 거기서 각각 한 재목을 취하여 그곳에 우리의 거할 처소를 세우사이다 엘리사가 가로되 가라
BSBPlease let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a log so we can build ourselves a place to live there.” “Go,” said Elisha.
KJVLet us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

BSBSo Elisha went with them, and when they came to the Jordan, they began to cut down some trees.
KJVSo he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

BSBAs one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water. “Oh, my master,” he cried out, “it was borrowed!”
KJVBut as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6하나님의 사람이 가로되 어디 빠졌느냐 하매 그곳을 보이는지라 엘리사가 나무가지를 베어 물에 던져서 도끼로 떠오르게 하고
BSB“Where did it fall?” asked the man of God. And when he showed him the place, the man of God cut a stick, threw it there, and made the iron float.
KJVAnd the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7가로되 너는 취하라 그 사람이 손을 내밀어 취하니라
BSB“Lift it out,” he said, and the man reached out his hand and took it.
KJVTherefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

BSBNow the king of Aram was at war against Israel. After consulting with his servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
KJVThen the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
영어 직역그때에 시리아의 왕이 이스라엘을 대항하여 전쟁을 하여 자신의 종들과 의논하여 말하되, 이러이러한 곳에 나의 진을 칠 것이다.
9하나님의 사람이 이스라엘 왕에게 기별하여 가로되 왕은 삼가 아무 곳으로 지나가지 마소서 아람 사람이 그곳으로 나오나이다
BSBThen the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful passing by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.”
KJVAnd the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
영어 직역그리고 하나님의 사람이 이스라엘의 왕에게 보내어 말하되, 조심하여 이러이러한 곳을 지나가지 말지니, 시리아인들이 그곳으로 내려왔노라.
10이스라엘 왕이 하나님의 사람의 자기에게 고하여 경계한 곳으로 사람을 보내어 방비하기가 한두 번이 아닌지라
BSBSo the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places.
KJVAnd the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

BSBFor this reason the king of Aram became enraged and called his servants to demand of them, “Tell me, which one of us is on the side of the king of Israel?”
KJVTherefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

BSBBut one of his servants replied, “No one, my lord the king. For Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.”
KJVAnd one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
영어 직역그리고 그의 한 종이 말하여 이르되, 나의 주인, 왕이시여, 아무도 아닙니다. 다만 이스라엘에 있는 선지자 엘리사가 이스라엘의 왕에게 너의 침실에서 말하는 말을 알려주나이다.
13왕이 가로되 너희는 가서 엘리사가 어디 있나 보라 내가 보내어 잡으리라 혹이 왕에게 고하여 가로되 엘리사가 도단에 있나이다
BSBSo the king said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send men to capture him.” On receiving the report, “Elisha is in Dothan,”
KJVAnd he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

14왕이 이에 말과 병거와 많은 군사를 보내매 저희가 밤에 가서 그 성을 에워쌌더라
BSBthe king of Aram sent horses, chariots, and a great army. They went there by night and surrounded the city.
KJVTherefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

15하나님의 사람의 수종드는 자가 일찍이 일어나서 나가보니 군사와 말과 병거가 성을 에워쌌는지라 그 사환이 엘리사에게 고하되 아아 내 주여 우리가 어찌하리이까
BSBWhen the servant of the man of God got up and went out early in the morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do?”
KJVAnd when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

BSB“Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

17기도하여 가로되 여호와여 원컨대 저의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그 사환의 눈을 여시매 저가 보니 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀더라
BSBThen Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
KJVAnd Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

BSBAs the Arameans came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, “Please strike these people with blindness.” So He struck them with blindness, according to the word of Elisha.
KJVAnd when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

19엘리사가 저희에게 이르되 이는 그 길이 아니요 이는 그 성도 아니니 나를 따라 오라 내가 너희를 인도하여 너희의 찾는 사람에게로 나아가리라 하고 저희를 인도하여 사마리아에 이르니라
BSBAnd Elisha told them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will take you to the man you are seeking.” And he led them to Samaria.
KJVAnd Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

BSBWhen they had entered Samaria, Elisha said, “O LORD, open the eyes of these men that they may see.” Then the LORD opened their eyes, and they looked around and discovered that they were in Samaria.
KJVAnd it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

KJVAnd the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

BSB“Do not kill them,” he replied. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and then return to their master.”
KJVAnd he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

BSBSo the king prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. And the Aramean raiders did not come into the land of Israel again.
KJVAnd he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

BSBSo there was a great famine in Samaria. Indeed, they besieged the city so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter cab of dove’s dung sold for five shekels of silver.
KJVAnd there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.

BSBAs the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, “Help me, my lord the king!”
KJVAnd as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

BSBHe answered, “If the LORD does not help you, where can I find help for you? From the threshing floor or the winepress?”
KJVAnd he said, If the Lord do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

BSBThen the king asked her, “What is the matter?” And she answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son, that we may eat him, and tomorrow we will eat my son.’
KJVAnd the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

BSBSo we boiled my son and ate him, and the next day I said to her, ‘Give up your son, that we may eat him.’ But she had hidden her son.”
KJVSo we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

BSBWhen the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. And as he passed by on the wall, the people saw the sackcloth under his clothes next to his skin.
KJVAnd it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

BSBHe announced, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders through this day!”
KJVThen he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

32그 때에 엘리사가 그 집에 앉았고 장로들이 저와 함께 앉았는데 왕이 자기 처소에서 사람을 보내었더니 그 사자가 이르기 전에 엘리사가 장로들에게 이르되 너희는 이 살인한 자의 자식이 내 머리를 취하려고 사람을 보내는 것을 보느냐 너희는 보다가 사자가 오거든 문을 닫고 문 안에 들이지 말라 그 주인의 발소리가 그 뒤에서 나지 아니하느냐 하고
BSBNow Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger ahead, but before he arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent someone to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”
KJVBut Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?

BSBWhile Elisha was still speaking with them, the messenger came down to him. And the king said, “This calamity is from the LORD. Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”
KJVAnd while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the Lord; what should I wait for the Lord any longer?
